A person can't wear a new diamond ring without having a set of matching earrings. That's the philosophy behind this year's Denim & Diamonds top raffle prize. The fundraiser sponsored by the Seguin Education Foundation will include an expanded version of its diamond package. Event chairperson Katie Beicker says in addition to raffling off a diamond ring, the SEF has decided to up the ante by throwing in a pair of earrings, which together hav a value of $8,000.

"The ring and earrings are donated by San Anthony's Jewelry. It is all together appraised right at eight karats of diamonds. It's a solitaire set diamond and the earrings are multiple diamonds," said Beicker.

Beicker says the raffle drawing itself is pretty entertaining plus ticket buyers need not be present to win.

"You do not have to attend the event to be able to purchase and win the diamonds. If you are not at the event, we will have a Seguin Education Foundation director to stand in your place to do the drawing because we have it where the top 25 come up and draw, and then when we're down to the 10 top ten, they each come up and pick a jewelry box and then all at once we open up the jewelry box and one of the jewelry boxes will contain the ring and the earrings," said Beicker.

The raffle is the featured event at this year's fundraiser set for April 17 at the Smokey Joe Williams Baseball Field at Fairgrounds Park. Beicker says the night time event will also feature a live auction, great food and the sounds of jazz music.

"Hopefully the number one change this year will be no rain and we will be able to have it on the baseball diamond as we have planned. It will be dining under the stars on the baseball diamond with the Seguin baseball and softball teams serving the meal. We will have a live auction with nine different auction items for nine innings. We will also have food catered by Nash Family Catering," said Beicker.

Raffle tickets for the diamonds are currently on sale. Each ticket is $20 and can be purchased from the Seguin Education Foundation office in Oak Park Mall or by calling 379-0325. Tickets for the evening dinner event are $50 each and may be purchased at Gift and Gourmet.
